ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100

Based on the results of the largest survey ever conducted into the UK’s hiking habits, Ordnance Survey created this guide to Britain’s 100 favourite walks, as voted for by over 8,000 walking enthusiasts!

Many of these brilliant walks are close by to our parks, so we’ve listed below the walks which are close to of each park. Of course there are lots of other brilliant walks surrounding all our parks, just ask at reception and the customer experience team will be able to point you in the right direction.

Best Walks Near Aysgarth Lodges

Aysgarth Lodges is a holidays only park, located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, with many walks starting from the front door! The beautiful Aysgarth Falls are within walking distance and are beautiful year-round. For pet-friendly, hot tub holidays you’ll love Aysgarth Lodges.

Yorkshire Coast to Coast Path, Richmond to Reeth
Walk Distance: 10.5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate

You can follow Wainwright’s famous 192 mile trail all the way from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire…or drop onto it in more manageable stages. This popular section of the route is from Reeth downstream via the River Swale to the historic town of Richmond.

Drive time from Aysgarth: 31 minutes

Grassington
Walk Distance: 9.5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate

There are many walks around the pretty village of Grassington. Take this route from Grassington to Conistone to see Linton Falls, Kilnsey Crag, Conistone Dib and the River Wharfe.

Best Walks Near Ullswater Heights

Ullswater Heights is our newest park, opening its doors in July 2019! Overlooking the stunning North Lakes this park feels tranquil and secluded, but is just a short drive from the picturesque village of Pooley Bridge and Ullswater, the second largest lake in the Lake District. Ullswater Heights offers a variety of holidays and short breaks including a unique glamping village and also luxury ownership opportunities.

Helvellyn
Walk Distance: 10.1 miles
Difficulty: Challenging

This is England’s third highest peak and is a walk for those with a decent level of fitness. The infamous ‘Striding Edge’ is a challenging ridge walk but this route leaves from the village of Glenridding before ascending the summit – and it’s spectacular views – via the Keppel Cove approach.

High Cup Nick
Walk Distance: 9.7 miles
Difficulty: Challenging

This mountain has been dubbed ‘The Grand Canyon of the Pennines’ and is one of the finest u-shaped glacier carved valleys in England. There are fantastic views from the summit taking in the dramatic geological formation at the top of High Cup Gill.

Drive time from Ullswater Heights: 29 minutes

Cat Bells
Walk Distance: 3.1 miles
Difficulty: Moderate

A small yet iconic fell that is popular with families due to its compact’ size. It dominates the view across Derwent from Borrowdale and is dubbed ‘The Lair of the Wildcat’. There are plenty of ways to the top but this classic route is over the bumps of the North Ridge.

Catbells Reflection

Buttermere
Walk Distance: 4.3 miles
Difficulty: Easy

Buttermere Valley is a tranquil area of dramatic fells, farms and woodland, encompassing three lakes. Buttermere (the lake) offers one of the best round-the-lake walks in the Lake District and the views mean that your photos make it look like you’ve been somewhere much more rugged!

Drive time from Ullswater Heights: 46 minutes
